Our Process
First Contact
Once you reach out to us, we’ll start an email thread about what you’re looking for. To avoid lengthy back-and-forths, we have a small survey to quickly gauge if Liberation Fab will be a good fit for you.
Drawing Triangles and Tubes
The design of a bicycle or other mobility tool can vary dramatically from conventional and straightforward to unusual and complex. We’ll work with you to make sure all your requirements are met and any compromises are made clear up front. We use Bike Insights in conjunction with design renderings to ensure we’re all on the same page during this process.
Deposit
If working together seems like a good fit, a deposit is required for us to move forward with design work. The deposit fee varies based on material and complexity, check out the Pricing and Timing page for more information.
Putting the “Fabulous” in Fabrication
We’ll keep you posted as your design nears its spot in the fabrication queue. Two weeks before it’s slated to start, we will “lock” the design and no further changes can be made. The fabrication process is often over in the blink of an eye, but we’ll send you updates as progress is made.
Paint and Finishing
Liberation Fab is thrilled to offer in-house powder coating services. We’re also happy to work with the painter of your choice - just let us know what you’re looking for and we’ll make your frame sparkle!
Quote and Payment
As the design is solidified, we’ll need full payment to begin ordering the build kit and components. We will prepare a formal quote at this stage with a few options on the price-vs-performance spectrum. Full payment is required to move forward with the fabrication process.
Component Build
For folks who want quality components at a great price, we offer complete builds. We’re able to spec most industry-standard parts and can often get configuration options not available to the average buyer.
Shipping and Handling
After paint, you may pick up your completed frameset locally in Pittsburgh or we will ship it to you via UPS Ground. Shipping costs will be included in the quote so there are no surprises.
